Census: 28 percent of Oklahoma homes have 1 parent

The U.S. Census Bureau figures indicate that 28 percent of all households of Oklahoma now are led by a single parent.

The Tulsa World reports that, in the County of Tulsa, value that is close to one in three households and in some counties over 40% of the houses has a single parent.


Linda Terrell, Executive Director of the Institute of Defense of the child, Oklahoma, says the two-parent household where the mother is at home with children "there is reality now."


Census data show Oklahoma ranks 36th in the nation for the percent of parents. The numbers are based on averages Census 2005-2009.


Hughes County has greater parent rate of Oklahoma 45. 5 percent, with Seminole second at 44 percent and County Blaine thirdly with 43.5%.
